Former jockey killed
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. A former hurdles and steeplechase jockey died from injuries he suffered on Saturday when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a truck. He was
William John Pascoe, aged 64, of 1 Bow Street, Onehunga.
The accident occurred at the corner of Mount Smart Road and Mays Road, Onehunga.
Well known on the northern jumping circuit since his apprenticeship at the age of 14, Mr Pascoe retired from racing in 1943.
He is well remembered for his wins at the Grand National Hurdles in 1933, on ■Stanchion, and the Great I Northern Hurdles, in 1935, lon Hounslow.
