Contingent welcomed

WELLINGTON, April 14. The South Vietnamese Ambassador (Mr N. Hoan) said tonight that he welcomed a scheme for a New Zeajand contingent of 25 to fight in Vietnam.
The scheme has been put forward by Mr G. C. Titman, who came to Wellington from Auckland today to discuss it with Mr Hoan.
i The Ambassador said that ihe was checking with Saijgon to see what his Governiment thought of the plan. “I personally welcome any gesture of help, either official or unofficial,” he said. “But I would like to know how my Government feels about it.”
Mr Hoan said that he had sent a cable to Saigon on Sunday and expected a reply very soon.
“I hope that Saigon will come out with some positive answer,” he said. [ Mr Hoan said that he had [not gone into the details of ’Mr Titman’s scheme in his [cable. He had explained in [general terms what Mr Tit- ’ man’s organisation was and i its willingness to fly to Saigon and help the South Vietinamese Army.
