Consistent golf played on a, variety of Christchurch i courses over the last ; week has deservedly! won Liz Douglas a place; in the New Zealand: team to contest the. Commonwealth cham-I pionships in England' next June. Mrs Douglas, aged 25, who I is the only new inter-1 national in the team of i five, probably won her; place ahead of a former ■ international. Sue Rit-; chie (South Canterbury), and 1 21-year-old Auck-j lander, Cherry West. She becomes the first South-j land player to be chosen I for the national side fori some years. Mrs) Douglas won the! Canterbury match-play( championship lastl Thursday and further) impressed in the three-, day Penfold home inter-) national tournament, which ended yesterday. I Also included in the team) named yesterday by the) president of the New) Zealand Ladies Golf) Union (Mrs G. D. Alex-) ander), are Gillian Ban-; nan (Titirangi), Sue Bis-1 hop (Russley), Sue Boagi (Waitikiri), and Frances 1 Pere (Manor Park). Barbara Langlex (South) Canterbury) is the non-) playing captain, and) Miss West (Pukekohe)! is the reserve. All but Mrs Douglas, ha-'ei experienced considerable international competition and took part in the women’s international golf tournament) in Sydney 16 months; ago, in which New Zea-1 land finished second. ! The team will leave New; Zealand early in June, playing in the Briti'h) women’s championship at St Andrews (June 10 to 14). th Newmark tournament (June 17 to 18), and the Commonwealth tournament, at Ganton. Yorkshire (June 26 to 28).
