Japan calm on steel

Japan’s steel industry has been reacting calmly to news that Australia. Sweden, and nine underdeveloped countries, including India, had agreed in Geneva to set up an association of iron oreexporting countries.
Mr Shozaburo Ichinomiya, senior managing director of Nippon Kokan Kaisha (N.K.K.), said there was no need for undue apprehension about the impact of the development on Japan, which depends on imports for more than 90 per cent of its annual needs.
He said there was no price controlling body for iron ore like the Organisation of : Petroleum Exporting Countries for the time being. Nippon Steel Corporation lalso said Japanese steel mills ■would continue talks with iiron ore-exporting countries on problems concerning the ore supply to Japan.
