Technical scores big win
Technical showed that it will be a power in regional soccer this season by the overwhelming victory it scored in a qualifying round of the Lion Chatham Cup on Saturday.
Meeting a renowned cupfighting team in Western, Technical raced away to a 6-1 lead at half-time and finished a 7-1 winner.
It was a display which will make the Broadlands Southern League favourites. Rangers and Dunedin City, look to their laurels.
Another big cup-tie winner was Shamrock, for which Michael Glubb scored all five goals in the club’s 5-0 victory over High School Old Boys.
Other matches resulted: Cashmere Wanderers 3. Halswell United 0; Nomads United 1, Woolston W.M.C. 7; Burndale United 6. Riccarton W.M.C. 1.
There were only two games in the Broadlands Southern League qualifying section, the reserve teams of Christchurch United and New Brighton fighting out a 1-1 draw, and University beating Rangiora 4-0.
