N.Z. strikes bad day (N’.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. ; A strong southerly on the last day of the national trapI shooting championships at |Kumeu on Saturday put paid Ito New Zealand's chances in i the postal shoot for the I Mclntosh Trophy. ! Gusts at angle to the six 'shooting bays sent the clay birds spinning in all directions.
Mr P. Veale, the president of the Waitemata Gun Club, the host for the championships and a shooter of international standing gave New Zealand little chance of getting into the reckoning. The scores of the 30 shooters in the team (the best 25 count) were sealed and posted to the English Clay Pigeon Association in London. The winning team will be anounced in July.
! Other nations which com- : pete for the trophy are Aus- | tralia, England, Scotland, I Wales, Ireland, South Africa. !and Canada. New Zealand has won it in six years, the last time in 1970. The New Zealand team was selected on scores in the single-rise and 25-target; matches on Friday. South Islanders in the team included Peter Askey (Christchurch), Dick Fraser (Dunedin), and Jim McKenzie (Invercargill).
