Karate studies

\ 22-y ear-old former university student, Christine Wilby, this year left lor Japan to become the first woman from Xew Zealand to study karate in that country. Miss Wilby is the eighth person from the Mas Oyama club la travel to Japan to train under the worldrenowned karate master, Masutatsu Oyama She hopes to stay there for between two and five months and will he training full-time. Miss Wilby is a 2 kyu brown belt and has been training lor lour years. After her stay at that world headquarters of the martial art. she hopes to continue her studies at the University of Canterbury, and to instruct the art at the club's headquarters in Barbadoes Street.
