Australian markets close on firmer note
Some sections of Australian markets improved yesterday, but trading was quiet over a narrow range. Falls outnumbered rises, but losses were less substantial than in Wednesday's shake-out, and most leading industrials closed on a firm note.
B.H.P. led the recovery with a 6c improvement to 580 c, and C.S.R. rose strongly from an opening 395 c to close 3c ahead on the day, at 408 c.
Other leaders to improve included Bank of N.S.W., up 4c to 564 c, Thiess. 10c to : 195 c, and the C.8.C., 5c to 170 c.
However, small losses j were posted by Hooker, Lend ■ Lease, C.U.8., Tooheys and I Myer. j Elsewhere. Bundaberg i Sugar eased 5c to 440 c in ■ reaction to its revised offer j for Millaquin, the latter clos- ] ing steady at 380 c. In the mining section small i improvements were recorded ; by Bougainville, C.R.A., and ’ M.I.M. Uraniums, however, moved against the general trend. Peko fell 10c to 250 c while Kathleen eased 4c to 100 c. In golds, G.M.K. fell 8c to , 180 c, but Emperor improved 1 5c to 160 c.
