Tour operator can pick up passengers
An application by Peninsula Tours to pick up and deposit passengers booked on its tours of Banks Peninsula along the route between Christchurch and the Sign of the Takahe was approved by the Christchurch Transport Licensing Authority (Mr .1. M. Dwyer) yesterday.
The managei (Mr S. W. Eves) explained that the departure point for his company’s tours was outside the! Clarendon Hotel. Passengers 5 from other parts of the cityhad to make their own way! to this point at their own i expense and his company’s! inability to provide this ser- i vice reflected unfavourably on his business. It also placed his firm at a disadvantage with his; nearest competitor running tours on the Peninsula. Pa-! cific Tourways, which was] able to provide this service, for its own passengers. On the company’s appli-i cation for permission to pick i up passengers from, and re-! turn them to, any hotel or
motel or other place of ac-! ' commodation within a radius! 'of five miles of Cathedral! i Square, the Authority re-! served his decision. To grant this particular amendment to the existing! ! licence would put Pacific] 'Tourways at a disadvantage! with, the applicant company, i he said. It would be unjust to grant this amendment while Pacific Tourways did not have any substantial: pick-up points. It was suggested to the Authority that if he granted the amendment, Pacific Tourways would lodge its own (application seeking similar' i advantages and that it was 1 likely other operators would 'follow suit.
