Mountaineer’s memorial
The Mountain SafetyCouncil has established a memorial fund for Mr L. D. Bridge, who was field officer for the council when he died in 1973. Donations to the fund will be used to buy copies of the council’s bushcraft film for free issue to approved youth groups and outdoor-pursuit centres. Mr Bridge was involved in l mountain safety for 46 years. He was appointed a member of the national committee of Search and Rescue when the organisation was formed in 1948. He took part in more than 170 operations, and was field controller in more than 60 of them. He lectured in Australia.! the United States, and Canada on search and rescue,; and was the author of ' Mountain Search and Rescue,” the standard manual for New Zealand, which was;

American field scientists, servicemen, and parachute rescue teams in snowcraft, icecraft, survival, and search and rescue. Gifts may be made to the Mountain Safety Council, care of the Department of Internal Affairs, Private Bag, Wellington.
