Conference has Pacific theme
Ihe urgent need to ex- | tend existing services of school counsellors and , visiting teachers, ade- ’ quately trained in counselling skills, will be discussed in a remit at the conference of the New Zealand Southern Divisional Union of Soroptimist Clubs at Rangiora on April 19.
| The remit, which will be (submitted by the Soroptimist! (Club of Rangiora-Kaiapoi and; (Districts, will be sent to the.' | Minister of Education (Mi I Amos) if passed; The Southern Divisional I I Union, which is part of I Soroptimist International, • will also consider a remit] which asks "that govern-: ments be urged to legislate to] provide adequate legal advice] (and assistance to the women of the world who are await-] ling trial for alleged legal] j offences.” The theme of the confer-! ence is “Focus South Pacj-I ;fic.” The Soroptimist Club of' •Christchurch wiil suggest raising funds to award a; (scholarship of $lOOO at two-' yearly intervals to the South:West Pacific Community Eduication Centre in Suva. This- ■ project would include six clubs within the Southern Di-i (visional Union. The guest speaker will be; the Rev. Kenapa Falatoese, About 90 delegates and obI seivers from many parts of the South Island are expected Jto attend the conference,; which will be held at Cherv- ■ lier Centre, Rangiora. i Visitors will include the' ■ president of the Soroptimist, “Council of the South-West! i Pacific (Mrs Nancy Cram, of; ' New South Wales). She will' •be accompanied by the coun-; ■cil’s vice-president (Mrs Mary; i'Whitehead) and secretary' II (Miss Hanna Glass), also of, • Australia. The president of] ; the New Zealand Northern 1 Divisional Union (Miss Anne1. Shipherd) wili also attend. ; Miss Ruth Goodland (Christchurch), president of ' the New Zealand Southern J Divisional Union, will preside oat the conference, which has; '•been organised by the ; Rangiora-Kaiapoi and Districts Club. On April 18 a divisional union council meeting wiil be . held and a welcome party in; tithe evening.
