Little rest for top golfers
The country’s leading women golfers will have little rest this week. Fitness as well as golfing ability will be under a severe test for the next four days, and by Sunday afternoon some players may well wonder why they began to play. Two qualifying rounds of stroke-play were held at Shirley yesterday; today there will be two rounds of match-play for the Canterbury title and a further two rounds on Thursday. The 12 players chosen for the Penfold home international — from which a
New Zealand team will be selected to compete in the Commonwealth tournament from June 26 to 28 — will then play 36 holes at Templeton on Friday and a further two rounds at Avondale on Saturday. One round at Coringa on Sunday will complete the busy week. Miss Jeanette Kinnaird (Canterbury), originally a reserve, has replaced Miss Ann McHardy (Hastings), in the squad, and Mrs Sue Whitaker (Canterbury) has been added to the 12 to reple.ee Miss Heather Mowat (Manawatu), who withdrew recently.
