Some power saved

A small saving in power consumption has been made in the Municipal Electricity Department’s area during the last two weeks, probably about the 2 per cent average achieved nationally. Checks of advertising lighting are continuing in Christchurch and 50 proprietors of commercial premises were found to be contravening regulations when M.E.D. inspectors made their most recent check. This was about the same number of offenders as detected a fortnight earlier, but not the same premises. According to the department's chief engineer (Mr W. G. Johnstone), there has been a good response from owners of commercial premises after approaches have been made by the department. '
