Tow after Strait crossing

■ r.V.Z Press Association} WELLINGTON. April 8. Ross Anderson, who today became the first man to cross Cook Strait in a Moth-class yacht, had a little trouble finding Island Bay. He sailed as far as Te Raekaihau rocks, at the entrance to Lyall Bay, before he realised his error. When he found Island Bay, the strong current and adverse winds made it difficult to tack, across the entrance of the bay, so he accepted a tow through the entrance. The trip across Cook Strait began in the morning from Tory Channel, and was in jeopardy for a time when the yacht was becalmed for two hours at mid-day. The crossing is thought to have raised more than $6OO, which will pay for new sails on the Outward Bound school’s cutter. Blenheim and Onslow jaycees collaborated on the arrangements for the ' escort boat and the radio coverage.
