Maurice Burrowes. for the second successive year, won the Canterbury Easter open table tennis title yesterday, and the 19-year-old South Island representative did not have to expend much energy in defending his championship.
Although Burrowes had a rather easy passage through to the isemi-tinals. his application was evident in the final rounds. His opponent in the semifinals, Dennis Kalin, caused a major upset by ousting the, third seed and champion on; 112 previous occasions, Johnj (Armstrong, in their roundI rnhin cpf'tirin nhv

Ini! uncharacteristic fashion, he,; attempted some wild shots to [J allow Adamson to close ton 19-20 before the Malaysian t student induced his oppon- 2 ent to net his serve. j
; He started confidently in the final against Burrowes and won six of the first eight points. But Burrowes, assured with his block shot and • switching play on his fore hand equalised at 10-all, and comfortably took the first set feurrowes, mainlv by better positioning and proper execution of the loose return.
