Traffic dense on main roads

All main roads leading into Christchurch were very, very, busy yesterday, a Ministry of Transport spokesman said. The most prevalent offences noticed by traffic officers on the main roads were cars travelling too close together, and speeding, although a traffic officer on the Main South Highway reported traffic was too dense for speeding. There were very few accidents on the main highways, the spokesman said. Traffic was also dense in the city area, and many offence notices were issued to people not wearing seat

belts. However, on the main l roads the number wearing seats belts was high. Two accidents in the city, both involving injury, had been reported to the Ministry of Transport yesterday afternoon. The Ministry issued a warning to drivers that a heavy fog had descended between Annat and Racecourse Hili on State Highway 73. Visibility was down to 200 ft.
