Professor of Maori
Victoria University of Wellington has announced provision in its 1975 budget for the appointment of the first professor of Maori. The university decided last year to expand its Maori studies courses. Courses on Maori society and culture, and in the
Maori language and literature began in 1965. This year, three courses on Maori society and culture have attracted large enrolments. Ninety-six students have enrolled in elementary Maori. 13 students are taking secondyear courses, and 11 are taking third-year courses.
