'Handicapped' out of work
f.VZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A Government M.P. has suggested that most of the 3000 registered unemployed were either mentally or physically handicapped. Mr T. Davey (Lab., Gisborne) said in Parliament that these people should not appear on the unemployment register but should be registered with the Social Welfare Department. Debating an Opposition motion criticising the Government's economic performance. Mr Davey said the people of New Zealand had “never had it so good.” .
