'Awakening’ in Rugby

The Rugby season should be divided into club and representative periods so that a player could enjoy his game and not have to divide his loyalties between two sides, said the former All Black captain, Brian Lochore, at the centennial celebrations of the Temuka Rugby Football [Club on Saturday night He said that from April to the end of July, players should be able to play where and when they liked, and from August to September [should be a representative [Period. This would allow 'selectors to watch players for a full season with a new team [without division of loyalties. Lochore said he believed there was a new awakening jin New Zealand Rugby. “I have gathered this from [those working close to the game,” he said. "This is due largely to the New Zealand Rugby Football Union, which has been criticised in the part, and rightly so, but within it are a number of individuals who have given effort and forethought which [has brought this about,” h* said.
