Z.A.N.U. in trouble in Zambia
• x Z P .4 •Rf’utf’r — Copyright t LUSAKA. March 30. 1 Zambia has arrested a number of leaders from the Rhodesian nationalist movement. Z.A.N.U.. for questioning about the murder of its chairman, .Mr Herbert Chitepo. the Zambian Home Affairs Minister (Mr Aaron Milner) said today. He said nationalist leaders from other movements had also been arrested — “quite a nice number.” The police were also investigating reports that dozens of Z.A.N.U. members 1 !
had been killed in internal feuding, Mr Milner said. The offices of Z.A.N.U. — the Zimbabwe African Nat-1 ional Union — the rival] Zimbabwe African Peoples; Union (Z.A.P.U.), and the front for the Liberation of Zimbabwe (Frolizi) would be closed. In Stockholm yesterday,, Mr Claude Chokwenda. Nor-’ die representative of ZA.N.U.. said about 50 Z.A.N.U. officials and members were arrested at Mr Chitepo’s home in Lusaka on the evening of his funeral last Sunday. Dr Edison Sithole, public- , ity secretary of the African National Council (A.N.C.). ! said today that the aZmbian Government’s clamp-down : was a complete setback to!the liberation movement in I Rhodesia. j-
