Inter-club record
A record entry of 175 teams—ll 6 in the open grades and 59 in the school grades—has been received for the Canterbury interclub basketball competitions. Because of this, grading games have become necessary and these will begin immediately after Easter.
In the women’s A grade, eight teams have applied for inclusion Six are required but only three teams, Mairehau A, which won last season, Checkers and Mairehau B, will not have to take part in the grading games. Y.M.C.A.Rebels, Rangiora, Burnside, University, and United are the others seeking A grade status. It is hoped that the grading games will be completed in time to begin the competition proper on April 12. The women’s B grade will have full-length games this season for the first time and these will be played on Wednesday evenings. The men’s B grade, which has had fulllength games for some time, will continue to be played on Saturday with the men’s and women’s A grades. Seven entries have been received for the men’s A grade—Y.M.C.A., High School Old Boys, Checkers, Mairehau, University, Burnside, and Aranui. Burnside and Aranui will play oft for the final placing.
