Kenann makes it look easy

(‘‘The Press’’ Special Service) WELLINGTON. The Takanini colt Kenann ; laid strong claims on Satur-. day to being the top three-year-old this season when he ran away with the New Zealand St Leger Stakes over 2800 metres at Trentham. Up until Saturday Kenann’s biggest win was in the Wellington Derby. He finished a well beaten ninth in the New’ Zealand Derby at Ellerslie, won by Mansingh. The win was the fourth in a short career for Kenann which has had 18 starts. A w’eek before the St Leger he convincingly beat a field of class one and two horses in the President’s Handicap. On that run he was made a very u’arm favourite in the St Leger. Raced by Mrs Ann Neilsen and her son Mr Ken Howard, Kenann took his stake earhings on Saturday on to $32,545. After considering a start in the Star’s Travel Invitation Stakes at Tauranga next week his connections have decided to put him out for a week and freshen him for the $15,000 Avondale Championship Stakes for three-year-olds at the end of April. For Noel Harris it was a great; day. Before scoring an easy w’in on Kenann he had an armchair ride on Nuriootpa in the rich Wakefield Challenge Stakes. He also had close seconds on both Fort Hagen in the Chalmers Stakes and Grey Way in the Hutt Handicap. Ttfe St Leger was also a great triumph for Oakland studmaster.
