WELLINGTON, March 12. Mr Francis Wevers, president of the Radio and Television Journalists’ Society,
today apologised to the families of dead N.Z.B.C. staff
members who, he said, might have been discomfited by his statement on Monday that the new broadcasting organisations had redesignated dead persons within their structures.
Mr Wevers said the in- [ formation on which his state-1 ment was based was given! to him and members of the; society at a stop-work meet-! ing on Monday, from what; appeared to be good author-! ity. “However, it is known to [ the society that letters have: gone out to people previously j employed by the N.Z.8.C., [ but no longer members of ’ the staff, appointing them top positions in the new broad-[ 1 casting structures. “It has been admitted by[[ personnel management staff i that this has occurred,” Mr! Wevers said. While he now admitted[ j that he was wrong to allege'< that letters had been sent to j dead former members of the ■ N.Z.8.C., Mr Wevers said the j 1 rumour that this had hap- ‘ pened was one which had!; been allowed to gain cred-ii ence because of the exist- 1 ing state of affairs inside the 1 N.Z.B.C. f
