Chequebook pause
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. Cheque offences would be far less prevalent if banks refused to issue chequebooks for seven days after an application was made, says the Otago-Southland regional crime prevention officer, Detectvie J. S. Black. He was asked to comment on a claim by a Tauranga man “that banks are chasing customers so hard that they are failing to make adequate cheeks on the identity and financial standing of persons j to whom chequebooks are issued.”
Mr Black said that a sevenday period before any cheque forms or books were issued should be used by banks for a thorough check on people opening accounts. I
