FOOTSTEPS TO $10

"In Step With Dad” has won the first daily cash prize of $lO in the “Holiday Replay” photographic contest organised by “The Press.” The photographer was Mr Grant Hunter, of 24 Woodchester Avenue, Christchurch. Mr Hunter, a public servant, took the monochrome study with an Asahi Pentax camera on the New Brighton beach early in the New Year. The judges were particularly impressed by the almost

identical position of the feet of the man and child. Six special prizes of $5 were: also awarded yesterday for prints which are reproduced on Page 10 this morning. Details of the contest and an entry form are on Page 12. Mr P. B. Dolan, a member of the qualifications board of the New Zea-, land Professional Photographers’ Association, is assisting Mr L. R. Bloxham, illustrations editor)

of “The Press,” with the judging in place of Mr Harold Mason, the association’s national president, who will be away from Christchurch for the rest of the week. The judges expressed concern last evening about the condition of some of the negatives submitted. Several were attached to entry forms with paper clips and one was stapled through its image area to a print. Negatives should be pro-

tected by separate bags within envelopes. A steady stream of entries flowed into “The Press” again yesterday, the bulk from Christchurch, but some from as far afield as Invercargill and the North Island. First prize in the contest is a Bay of Islands holiday for two with Mount Cook Airlines and the Tourist Hotel Corporation. Second prize will be $lOO cash. The daily $lO prizes will be continued until March 26.
