Special race for fillies
A special race for three-year-old fillies, carrying a stake of $2OOO and bonuses valued at $lOOO, has been included in the New Brighton Trotting Club’s programme for its meeting at Addington Raceway on April 16.
The race will be a valuable lead-up to the $lO,OOO New Zealand Oaks, which the club will run at its meeting on Anzac Day. The race on April 16 will be known as the Nevele R. Stud Stakes and it will be run over 2600 m. Non-win-ners will start from the limit, winners of one race from 10m, two races from 20m, and three or more races from 30m. The owner of the winner will receive for an acceptable mare, a free service to the value of $750 to the stallion of his choice of those stallions standing at Nevele R Stud in the 197576 season. The trainer will receive a trophy valued at $l5O, while there will be a trophy valued at $lOO for the driver of the winner. As well as the two races to be run by the New Brighton club, fillies will be able to race against mares in the $BOOO New Zealand Standardbred Stakes at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on April 9. This race, over one mile from a mobile start, will carry a bonus of $lOOO should the winner beat the
best time recorded by a mare in a race over one mile.
In addition, the owners of the first three placed horses will receive a free service to an imported stallion. The stallions available this year are Historic Time, Scotch Abbe and Tiger Wave.
The field will consist of 10 horses, seven starting from the front line. In the previous contests horses have been invited to nominate, but this year entries will be taken for the race on the day of general nominations.
