Troop call in Glasgow

CN.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)

GLASGOW, March 11

Glasgow’s city fathers have called for troops to come in and clear away 50,000 tons of rat-infested rubbish heaped up by a nine-week strike of dustmen.

Drivers of refuse-collection trucks have voted to continue their unofficial wage strike, despite appeals by union leaders.

A prominent member of Glasgow’s Labour-controlled City Council, Councillor Dick Dynes, said he would ask the Government for troops.

Cr Dynes said some of the strikers had threatened not to return “until bodies are lying in the streets.”
