Heroin smugglers go to prison

HONOLULU, March 11
Two Australian men have been given prison sentences for their parts in the smuggling of four pounds of high-grade heroin into Hawaii from the Far East.
Henry Bartholomeusz, aged 42, was sentenced to four years in prison. He admitted smuggling the heroin into Honolulu. Charles Davis, aged 40, who admitted making a telephone call to a police in-
former as part of the smuggling operation, was sentenced to two years in prison and five years probation. The judge, however, suspended all but six months of Davis’s prison sentence and he will be given credit for four months he has already spent in gaol.
Bartholomeusz and Davis were arrested last November, capping an eight - month undercover operation by United States. narcotics agents.
Authorities say the police are still seeking three other men indicated as codefendants in the case.
Davis, a pilot, said he stood to lose his commercial licence and his job. Bartholomeusz said he had lost his business licence in Hong Kong as a result of his involvement.
