Samoyed dog film show
The Dominion Samoyed Club will hold a film show this evening as part of the “Come Alive” programme. The Samoyed dog originated in Siberia, bred by the tribe from which it derives its name. They were used for herding reindeer and pulling sledges. Europeans later crossed them with German Shepherds and Labradors to give the Huskie. This evening’s show will be held in Riccarton House at 7.30 p.m. Other events on the “Come Alive” programme today are: The Good Companions Social Club, oldtime dancing, St Mary’s Hall, Manchester Street, 8 to 11 p.m.; Canterbury Croquet Association, Silver Badge competitions, club headquarters, 9 a.m.; New Zealand Homemakers’ Union, welcome at play group, 113 Summerfield Street, 2 p.m.; Model Aircraft Club, invitation freeflight contest, films, slides, Wigram Air Base; “Learn square dancing,” St David’s Hall, Wairakei Road, 8 p.m.; Roller skating, rollerdrome, Hornby, 7 p.m.
