-(N-.Z: Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 7. A drop in the number of i unemployed was recorded I in the fortnight to the end : of February, said the Min- ; ister of l abour (Mr : ner) today. The number fell 365 to 3088 jat February 28 Another 181 men (227' at February 14) | were employed on special | work with Government departments. At the end of last month, 1551 people were receiving unemployment benefits, an increase of 280 on the figure for the previous fortnight. Auckland had the highest total, 250. Registered unemployed ineach district, with the prvious fortnight’s figures in parentheses, were:— Northland 452 (418), Auckland 878 (864), Hamilton 76 (68), Tauranga 231 (248), Rotorua 200 (246), Gisborne 144 (296), Napier 62 (47), Hastings 21 (16), New Plymouth 67 (99). Palmerston North 297 (320), Masterton 14 (16), Lower Hutt 74 (100), Wellington 49 (77), Blenheim 72 (83), Nelson 19 (26), Greymouth 19 (18), Christchurch 140 (164), Timaru 17 (81, DunedinOamaru 61 (121), Invercargill 71 (72).
