Bus driver fined for assault
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 6. Patience and understanding were the essential ingredients of any bus driver, said a Magistrate in the Otahuhu Court to an Auckland Regional Authority bus driver today.
Mr T. R. Gillies, S.M., was sentencing Abraham Joseph I Warren on a charge of;< assaulting a 10-year-old girl: passenger. I < The Court had earlier 1 heard of a confrontation < between the girl and Warren 1 in the school bus and of how he had picked her up by the 1 waist and put her down on 1 the second step of the 'bus)'! Although he acknowledged 1 that the girl had suffered no * physical harm from Warren, the Magistrate said that Warren had no justification in 1 bodily picking the girl up. :< Counsel (Mr M. C. Mit-h chell) said that Warren hadil been trying to restore order :< to the bus — and as a bus [ driver he was subject top much provocation, particu-'-
larly when driving a school! bus with 60 to 70 children: on board. He fined Warren $75 and! ordered him to pay $32 wit-| nesses expenses: he also dis-| qualified him from driving! for three months. But the Magistrate said he thought that patience and understanding were essential •ingredients of any bus driver particularly wffiere there were children on board.
