RICHARD HADLEE FIT Acupuncture successful
The Canterbury fast bow ler. Richard Hadlee, has been included in the Nev Zealand squad of 13 for the two one-day matches against England at Dunedin tomorrow and in Wellington on Sunday.
He passed a fitness test it Christchurch during th< second test. In an attempt to overcome a shoulder injury which ha: his bowling for most | of the season. Hadlee under 'went acupuncture treatment jin Auckland with favourable ■ results. He has vet to extend himj self fully in bowling, but he (suffered little discomfort dur. j ing his practice trial. It seems almost certain that Hadlee wil] be included in the final XL His extra speed should add impetus to the New Zealand attack which, for the most part, has proved ineffec- ! tual against the top England i batsmen. SAME 12 The same 12 players for the second test, and Hadlee, form the squad, which is: Bevan Congdon, Glenn Turner, John Morrison, Barry Hadlee, Brian Hastings, John Parker, Geoff : Howarth, Ken Wadsworth, Dayle Hadlee, Richard Hadlee. Lance Cairns, Richard Collinge, and Hedley Howarth. Morrison, who injured his back when throwing a return during the third day’s play land did not field after lunch, has been deemed fit, and his Wellington team-mate, Ewen Chatfield, struck by a bumper in the Auckland test, was not considered. The selectors may decide Ito play Barry Hadlee—the twelfth man in the two tests —for the Dunedin match rather than risk Morrison’s injury recurring. Lance Cairns, who performed admirably with the bat in Christchurch, will probably give way to Richard Hadlee. TEST FAILURES Brian Hastings, a proven cricketer in limited-over matches as he demonstrated in Australia, will probably be
retained for the Dunedin fix. ture even allowing for his 'test failures when he was twice dismissed without sc. r ing and compiled 13 in his (other innings. Another failure hv Hastings ■ might influence the selectors to include both Barrv Hadlee and Morrison tn the X! to; , the Wellington game It is doubtful if Richard Hadlee would have beet picked for the squad unless the selectors intended to plav Shim in both matches. Bur 1 should his back injury cause Sconcern in the first match Cairns would be the obvious i replacement.
