Frustrating year says president
This season’s prices have not been good and it has been too wet for cropping, said this year’s president of the Cheviot Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Mr B. W. Stewart, this week. Mr Stewart said it had been a frustrating season for the farmers in the Cheviot district. He said there was still barley standing around the district which had not yet ripened. The only consolation was the abundance of feed.
. Everything had gone well on his own 760-acre farm this season, he said, except for the poor prices. Mr Stewart has 200 acres of crops, usually grass seed, wheat, and barley, and runs 2200 Romney-Corriedale ewes on the remaining land. Mr Stewart took over 430
acres of the farm in 1958 a from his father, who had' 1 been farming it for 30 ’ years. The remaining 330 acres are leased. He has spent ail his life‘s at Cheviot and was edu-’ cated at the district high? school. He is married with J four young children and has i been a member of the'; association since 1957. | Mr Stewart is a member| of the Cheviot chapter of| the Lions.
