Seminar on heart

A seminar on emergency •cardiac care, with particular reference to mobile lifesupport units or mobile coronary' care units, would be •held in Wellington on March ;6, the secretary of the National Heart Foundation's scientific committee (Dr D R Hay) said on Tuesday. Attending the seminar will be representatives of hospital boards, the Department of Health, ambulance services, the Red Cross Society, the Police Department, and other organisations that deal with collapses and emergencies. Dr G. Sloman, of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, will take part. He has been involved with the setting up of mobile units in Melbourne and has been on a World Health Organisation committee studying cardiovascular emergencies. The Director General of Health (Dr H. J. H. Hiddlestone) will give a talk on “Health Priorities in Nev.’ Zealand,” and there will be other speakers. Dr Hay said the seminar was a follow-up to the report on emergency cardiac care made by the foundation late last year. It was hoped that there would be discussion on such matters as the earlywarning symptoms of heart attacks, education in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the importance of trained staff.
