Replies have not yet been received to lawyer’s letters sent to two persons connected with the petition sent to the Waimairi County Council calling for the resig-; nation 6f Cr L. J. G. Franks. His lawyer has asked for the retraction of the preamble to the petition, and that this be done publicly. Letters were sent to Mrs H. L. Garrett and to Mr W. Murie. whose nam. appears first on the list of signatories. Mrs Garrett, a member of the Christchurch City Council, has denied that she was: ;the organiser of the petition. The signature “H. L. Gar-: rett" appears near the top of; the list of signatories. Cr Franks said yesterday that a time limit had been: set for the compliance with his lawyer's request. If the retraction were not made,, [further legal action would be taken.
