Oxford decides against Bhutto

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) OXFORD. The governing body of Oxford University has decided, by 239 votes to 183, against granting an honorary law degree to the Pakistan Prime Minister (Mr Bhutto). Mr Bhutto was once a student at Christ Church College. Senior academics who opposed the degree had accused Mr Bhutto of shared responsibility for the atrocities committed in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) just before the 1971 IndiaPakistan war. An earlier vote on the degree issue went against Mr Bhutto by 155 votes to 153, but a new vote was called when it was found that two members who had said “no” were ineligible.
