Gallons to litres

The latest rise in the price of petrol Is expected to make motorists even more conscious of fuel consumption. Many, however, although they are buying their petrol in litres, still think in miles a gallon rather than litres per 100 kilometres.

To make an approximate conversion from miles a gallon to litres per 100 km, divide 280 by the number of miles a gallon. Thus, 20 miles a gallon is 280 divided by 20; or 14 litres per 100 km.
