AUSTRALIAN RUGBY TRIP
Three years and a half of planning will come to fruition tomorrow when members of the Linwood Rugby Club’s under-20 team leave Christchurch for a three-week tour of eastern Australia.
Matches will be played against the Harlequins, in Melbourne, Western Districts, in Canberra, and Randwick, in Sydney. The third game is regarded as the tour’s major fixture. The members of the team, and their coaches, Messrs Alan Rule and Gary Bodger, have formed a closely-knit group since they came together in the under-17 grade. They have maintained this team solidity ever since, moving up through the grades. Next year, however, the players will branch out into the open grades. The players and coaches were directly responsible for the organisation of the tour, and helped in raising the $14,000 necessary for the trip. They are proud of the fact that they form the first Linwood team to trav-
el overseas. The party will consist of 17 players under the managership of Mr George Stove, the two coaches, and 23 supporters. Training for the trip started after Christmas, and the players hope the tour will give them a flying start in the under-20 competition. The team has won two charfipionships in three years.
