Dacombe scores 8 for Rangers
The Rangers striker, Graham Dacombe, scored an incredible eight goals as his club crushed Nomads United, 15-0, in the second round of the Air New Zealand soccer tournament yesterday.
The win left Rangers as one of five clubs in the Canterbury area qualifying section with 100 per cent records. The others are Christchurch United, New Brighton, Technical, and Western. The semi-finalists will be known after next Sunday’s third round, when Rangers meet Western and Brighton plays Technical, both at Queen Elizabeth II Park No. 2 ground, and United meets Woolston W.M.C. at Rangers Park. United is almost assured of qualifying. Woolston needing an upset win, by at least 2-0, to overtake United’s superior goal average.

nament results yesterday were: Technical 5, Halswell 1; Brighton 6, Burndale United 0; Woolston 4, Shamrock 0; Christchurch United 3, Cashmere 0; Rangers 15, Nomads 0; Western 5, Riccarton 0. In the Rangers tournament matches played on Saturday, United and Halswell went into the semi-finals. United beat Western, 6-0, and Halswell defeated Technical, 4-3 on penalties, scores being level, 2-2, after extra time. Wellington - Diamond United, relegated from the Rothmans National League at the end of last season, surprised by beating Stop Out, 2-1, in the final of the Wellington section of the Air New Zealand tournament on Saturday. Gisborne City won the Poverty Bay final by defeating Gisborne Thistle, 2-1 .
Blockhouse Bay dropped a vital point in the Auckland area competition when it drew, 1-1, with Birkenhead United. The Bay striker, lan Ormond, was sent off a minute before half-time.
