Hutton may be selector

(N.Z.P.A.Reuter—Copyright) LONDON.

The former England cricket captain, Sir Len Hutton, has confirmed that he has been nominated as a test selector.

If elected, he will have a part in choosing England’s team for the four tests against Australia in Britain later this year, and the World Cup limited-over championship. Sir Len, aged 58, said that he thought the job of a test selector now was much more difficult than 20 years ago. But he looked forward to it, “if elected.”

Two other big names in cricket, the former England batsman, Ken Barrington, and the former test umpire, Charlie Elliott, are Slso understood to be among candidates for selector. In cricket circles, they are tipped to supersede Messrs J. Bond, B. Taylor and O. Wheatley, the present panel, because of their greater experience of test cricket.
