International Women’s Year was launched last evening at a dedication service at the Christchurch Cathedral, organised by the Christchurch Business and Professional Women’s Club. Waiting to take part in the procession into the Cathedral are, from left in front, Dr Margaret Smith, president of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women; the Mayoress and the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay); Mrs E. M. Aitken, secretary of the Christchurch Federated Business and Professional Women’s Club; and Mrs C. E. Hill, club president. Standing behind the Mayor is the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Michael Underhill), who conducted the service.
