Tasman trade imbalance

New Zealand had “laid it on the Ime" to Australia that steps were needed to check the growing Tasman trade imbalance, said the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr mg)He was Commenting on talks he held in Canberra with the Australian Minister, of Overseas Trade (Mr Crean>. f "We went over several specific items on which we ihope io get some immediate i action, and they agreed to 1 look at these. He would not reveal the commodities concerned, but j officials indicated that oil, and sugar from Australia, and cheese, forest products and manufactured items from New Zealand were key topics jin the talks. I Australian cars and spare ’parts were also discussed, although trade in motor i vehicles is under discussion as part of the New Zealand Australia Free Trade Agreei ment.
