Hotere works damaged
Forty-one paintings by the Dunedin artist, Ralph Hotere, have been damaged on a tour of New Zealand. They were rejected for display by the Auckland City Art Gallery last week because of the damage. The director of the gallery; (Mr E. W. Smith) said it would be unfair to Mr Ho-J tere to show the paintings. The paintings have beenshown in galleries in In-' vercargill. Christchurch, Wanganui, New Plymouth., Hamilton. and Auckland. They were carried in a hired, truck. The paintings will be re- ■ turned to Dunedin so that Mr Hotere can repair them. He said he was not sure what had happened to the paintings, or where it had happened, but believed the damage might have happened gradually throughout the tour.
Many of the paintings are I on loan from galleries or! private collectors.
