Eight surf rescues

Eight people were rescued from the surf at Christchurch beaches yesterday when the warm weather brought out the swimmers and surfers once more.

At Taylors Mistake a man and two children were swept into a hole and had to be rescued. Later a surfer lost his board some distance from the beach and also had to be helped ashore.

Four people were rescued from heavy surf at Wahnairi after being sucked into a large hole well outside the marked swimming area. Two of the swimmers were wearing their clothes at the time.

None of the eight people rescued suffered more than mild shock.
