Speedboats on Estuary

Sir, — I had not wanted to re-enter the controversy on ppwerboating on the Estuary, but I feel that M.H.’s letter on Friday, calls for comment. As stated by the Mayor, the council must give itself the power to grant exemption from the by-law on occasions and, in fact, the clause involved dates back to the former

council’s original draft for the proposed new by-law. I cannot comment on “speedboats” as such; our association does not concern itself with racing, but I do hope that M.H. can distinguish between speedboat racing and the harmless family pastime of water-ski-ing, which are two entirely different things. It should be pointed out to Mr McGuigan, also, that his Government came to power supporting the theme of “family unity,” and if he is attempting to persuade the council not to provide an area for family water-ski-ing he is opposing his own party policy. — Yours, etc., W. RUSBRIDGE. Hon. Secretary, Estuary Watersports Association. January 24, 1975.
