Govt protest urged
■ A telegram urging the I Government to protest against “illegal” United States aid to South Vietnam and resulting “inhuman” activities of the Thieu Government was sent by a Christchurch organisation. Release All Vietnamese Prisoners of Conscience, to the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) on Sunday. Mr P. W. Muir, a spokes;man for the organisation, said j that because of many New (Zealand inquiries it had made efforts to establish the position of political prisoners in South Vietnam. The conclusion was that there were 100,000 to 200,000 political prisoners in the Thieucontrolled areas.

Paris Peace Agreement was i signed, the United States - Government had largely t financed the Saigon regime . and enabled it to continue i the war, to suppress political activity, and to hold thous- ■ ands of political prisoners. ■ This United States aid and . Saigon’s activities, the telegram said, were contrary to (the agreement. ( The New Zealand Govern(ment had continuously favijoured diplomatically, and I with aid, the Thieu Adminiss tration, which had actively i opposed the agreement, the telegram said.
