Conference in N.Z.
Chief Justices from 18 countries in Asia will arrive in New Zealand early in February to attend the Sixth Asian Judicial Conference in Wellington from February 3 to 7. The Chief Justices will be guests pf the Government.
The now biennial conference was initiated by the Chief Justice of the Philippines in 1962 to promote an efficient administration of justice through discussions of the various judicial systems and by an examination of written information from the participating countries. The conferences have been held in Tokyo, Bangkok, Canberra and Seoul.
The conference will be opened by the Governor General (Sir Denis Blundell). Except for the opening and closing ceremonies, the discussions will be in private. After the conference, the Chief Justices will be entertained at a dinner in Christchurch as guests of the Canterbury District Law Society. They will visit Mount Cook and Queenstown before leaving New Zealand.
