Great Santa year
Last year was a year ot gloom for the beef industry but still a great year for Santa Gertrudis cattle, according to Mr J. S. J. McCaskey, manager and principal of the Weka Plains Santa Gertrudis herd of Waipara. It began with a world record price of sAust46,ooo for a two-year-old bull, King Ranch Tuscan, at the King Ranch sale on April 2, and another above the previous record in the United States. At the Australian King Ranch sale 12 bulls grossed $248,000. But in October the previous record was eclipsed with a sale at SUSIOS,OOO for a Nine Bar Ranch bull in Texas, in the United States. “Such is the confidence of people involved with not only beef but the Santa Gertrudis as a means of producing it,” says Mr McCaskey.
