Council efficiency and the I need for good relations withj ratepayers were the main; items discussed on Wednes-I day at the first of what will be regular .weekly meetings! between the Mayor (Mr H., G. Hay) and the council’s departmental heads. Mr Hay said he had emphasised that ratepayers’ financial problems might be greater in the months ahead, and that the council must do its utmost to be as efficient as possible, and keep costs down. The meetings were “an exercise in better communications with council officers,” Mr Hay said. Yesterday’s meeting had been “quite worth while.”
