Colonel Borthwick born in N.Z.

Colonel A. M. Borthwick, of Wethersfield, Essex, the chairman of Thos. Borthwick and Sons (Australasia), Ltd, who was killed in an accident in England earlier this month, was born in New Zealand.

Both Colonel Borthwick and his wife, Edith, died when high winds hurled a pantechnicon on to their car on a highway in Yorkshire on January 6.

He was descended from the Scottish founder of Thos. Borthwick and Sons of Australasia, Ltd, pioneers in the carrying of frozen meat from New Zealand. As chairman of the company he often travelled to Australia and New Zealand.

During World War 11, Colonel Borthwick served in the London Scottish and Gordon Highlanders. He was awarded the Military Cross, and was wounded in Italy.

He was a keen skier, and; at the age of 58 climbed the; Eiger. He had also climbed! the Matterhorn twice. He took an interest ini politics, was a past joint! master of the East Essex! Hounds, and an excellent! shot, Hb also was a keen! amateur artist. Mrs Borthwick. whose 1
